What is an Orchiectomy?

Orchiectomy is the surgical removal of both testicles.

What is the Surgery and Recovery Like?

Typically, the surgery takes less than an hour under anesthesia and patients go home the same day.  After surgery patients are asked to avoid any heavy exercise for about 2-3 weeks.

What is the Benefit of Surgery?

Orchiectomy allows transwomen to stop taking hormones that block testosterone such as Spironolactone and Lupron.

Does Orchiectomy Limit Options for Vaginoplasty in The Future?

No. It is important to preserve scrotal skin if possible, to use at the time of the vaginoplasty.

Is Orchiectomy Covered by Insurance?

Usually but our office will confirm with your insurance before you have surgery.
